Amtrak will deploy a video security system composed of Cisco's Video Surveillance Manager (VSM), Proximex Surveillint and Agent Vi software to protect its Los Angeles and Oakland maintenance yards.The system will allow surveillance video to be monitored in real-time from any Amtrak location over an Internet Protocol network connection, allowing for centralized control and a more proactive means to perform incident response. Amtrak has chosen Consiliant Technologies as the system integrator.VSM is a software component of Cisco's Physical Security Solution that authenticates operator access to video feeds, provides matrixed switching between feeds, and stores video for later search and retrieval during an incident investigation.The Proximex Surveillint component provides policy-based incident discovery and resolution. The system contains a single real-time interface to view security activity, rather than requiring security officers to watch multiple monitors simultaneously. Through its Business Logic Manager engine, Surveillint will allow Amtrak to deploy security policies specific to its operation. The intelligence in the system will increase the speed by which security incidents can be detected, investigated and resolved. Proximex's Incident Connection Engine can correlate related incidents to reduce false alarms and assist security personnel in assessing information received from multiple security system sources that relate to the same incident.Agent Vi software, commonly used at airports and seaports, provides real-time video analytics and a means to process images received by each video camera. The system can sit anywhere on the network to receive and process images from cameras distributed throughout the network. Agent Vi uses a central database to hold system data, including the rules that govern the detection of events. The database contains the history of events that have occurred and the video feeds, which can be retrieved for analysis and reporting.Agent Vi is specifically designed to provide intrusion detection at railroad maintenance areas and rail yards. The system can detect unauthorized vehicles or people that attempt to access restricted areas. The system will alert operators if vehicles or people tailgate others who are authorized access into secured areas. Agent Vi can detect strange objects left unattended in secured areas or cameras that have become blocked or disabled.
