C2 live. The new Air and Space Command and Control Agency next month will hold Expeditionary Force Experiment '98, a combination live-fire and simulation exercise that puts still-developing command and control systems into the hands of warfighters. live. The new Air and Space Command and Control Agency next month will hold Expeditionary
Force Experiment 98, a combination live-fire and simulation exercise that puts
still-developing command and control systems into the hands of warfighters.
EFX 98, which runs from Sept. 10 to Sept. 24 near Elgin Air Force Base, Fla., is
the first of several annual experiments conducted by the Air Force to determine how
well-advanced C2 systems can halt a surprise attack.
About 30 command and control initiatives will be tested at the exercise, Air Force
officials said.
The Theater Battle Management Core System, a single database for planning air tasking
orders, is the baseline C2 system for EFX.
Lockheed Martin Corp. won the five-year, $150 million TBMCS integration and development
contract from the Air Force in 1995.
Info ops chief. Maj. Gen. Gerard Brohm, commander of the Armys
Communications-Electronics Command at Fort Monmouth, N.J., recently named Raoul Cordeaux
to fill the new position of assistant to the commander for information operations.
Cordeaux will coordinate CECOMs information operations programs and advise the
CECOM commander.
Cordeaux served for more than six years as the commands director of corporate
information and deputy chief of staff for information management before taking the new
post.
Since last year, Cordeaux has also directed year 2000 initiatives for the Army Materiel
Command in Alexandria, Va.
This location is the command to which CECOM reports.
Taking stock. The Navy has signed an agreement with Vertex Industries Inc. of Clifton,
N.J., for a software license to integrate the services global inventory system.
Under the agreement, the Navy will install NetWeave middleware for both messaging and
database services at 27 sites worldwide.
The software permits data and applications to be distributed across Unix and Microsoft
Windows.
Playing games. The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command has awarded VisiCom Inc. of
San Diego a $25 million systems engineering and software development contract to support
Navy and Marine Corps warfare simulation systems.
VisiCom will provide software maintenance, upgrades and support for the Marine
Air-Ground Task Force Tactical Warfare Simulation system, the Marine Corps Joint
Simulation System, the JSIMS Maritime system, and the, Synthetic Theatre of War Modular
Semiautomated Forces and Semiautomated Synthetic Forces programs.
