Dan Risacher is the type of computer guy who likes to code at night for fun. When he's not doing that, he is a leader in getting open-source software and technologies deployed at the Office of the Secretary of Defense and the Defense Department.

Dan Risacher, 34, is the type of computer guy who likes to code at night for fun. When Risacher's not doing that, he is a leader in getting open-source software and technologies deployed at OSD and DOD.He's a tireless proselytizer for open-source software, going beyond and above the call of duty to educate government and industry officials on the benefits of open source, said John Scott, director of Mercury Federal Systems. Risacher's message is that open source will help the military respond faster to new and emerging threats, accrue savings, provide an alternative to closed software and help make DOD systems more secure.Turnover among information technology leaders is a fact of life in government circles.
