Android users can now catch up with their Apple-device counterparts. New NASA app for Android smart phones contains information on spinoff innovations used to solve problems in everyday lives.

“Commercialization of NASA technology has contributed to products and services in the fields of health and medicine, transportation, public safety, consumer goods, environmental resources and computer technology,” reports the .More than 1,700 NASA innovations are profiled in the app. It serves as a front end to its Spinoff portal based on a publication by the same name. According to NASA, when spinoff products began to emerge from space technologies, it considered the possibility of an annual report to present at congressional budget hearings. The first report in 1973 generated such great public interest that the agency decided to make it into an attractive publication. The first four-color edition of Spinoff was published in 1976.The Android app, according to the NASA Wiki, contains:  Unlike the NASA app for the iPad device, the Spinoff does not include images, videos and Twitter feeds. 

Now you can thumb through technologies invented by NASA on your Android smart phone.

NASA released today its first app for the Android platform, named the NASA Spinoff, after launching some high-profile apps for Apple last year. 

Android’s app contains information on technologies, or spinoffs, that were created for the space program and are now used to solve problems in everyday lives, writes Jason Townsend on NASA's Behind The Page blog.
