The Texas Supreme Court ruled against a group that sued to stop the state from using direct-recording electronic voting machines.

A lower court rejected the Texas secretary of state's move to dismiss the case, but the state's highest court stopped the legal action, the story states.

The Texas Supreme Court has ruled against a group that sued to stop the use of paperless electronic voting machines there because the plaintiffs didn't prove they had been personally injured, Timothy B. Lee reports in Ars Technica.

Texas has used direct-recording electronic voting machines for some years and in 2006, a coalition sued to stop Travis County, Texas, from using the eSlate, a DRE machine, the story notes. The coalition claimed the machines weren't secure, didn't allow meaningful recounts, and didn't produce sufficient paper trails.
