Brand-new 450- and 500-MHz Pentium III processors are showing up in systems sold
on General Services Administration Information Technology Schedule contracts.


Gateway Inc.’s schedule contract prices a 450-MHz GP7-450 PC at $2,348 with
19-inch monitor, 128M of synchronous dynamic RAM, 512K cache, 16M Accelerated Graphics
Port graphics accelerator and 13G hard drive.


Gateway throws in a bonus internal Iomega Zip drive, 13X/32X CD-ROM drive, 10/100-Mbps
Ethernet PCI card, Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0 and Office 97 Small Business
Edition.


Government Technology Services Inc. of Chantilly, Va., has put the 500-MHz, $1,733
Compaq Deskpro PN 6500X on its National Institutes of Health Electronic Computer Store II
governmentwide acquisition contract.


The Deskpro PN 6500X comes with 128M of RAM, 14.4G hard drive, Matrox Electronic
Systems G200 graphics accelerator with 8M of synchronous dynamic RAM and Windows NT
Workstation 4.0. GTSI officials said the Pentium III Deskpro PN runs about 10 percent
faster than its 450-MHz Pentium II predecessor.


GTSI also has put Seagate Software’s $280 Crystal Reports 7 on its NIH ECS II
contract. Crystal Reports 7 users can do interactive reporting and analysis over the Web.


The package runs under Windows 9x and NT 3.51 or 4.0. It has advanced data
visualization features, according to officials of Seagate Software, which is a subsidiary
of Seagate Technology Inc. of Scotts Valley, Calif.


MicroAge Federal of McLean, Va., has added Minolta Corp. printers to its GSA IT
Schedule contract. The $379 monochrome Minolta PageWorks 8L prints eight pages per minute
at 600- or 1,200-dot-per-inch resolution.


The $1,699 Color PageWorks L prints 3 ppm in color or 12 ppm in monochrome. Its
resolution goes up to 2,400 dpi. The Color PageWorks L has drivers for Win9x and NT 4.0.


MicroAge Federal has listed three products from Raxco Software Inc. of Gaithersburg,
Md., on its GSA IT schedule as well as on its NIH ECS II contract. Raxco’s $140
instaNT Pro suite of system resource management tools for NT 4.0 handles defragmentation
and remote control.


Administrators can combine instaNT Pro event logs across a network and store them in a
database.


The tool makes system recovery disks remotely for storage at specified locations.
