Federal Macintosh enthusiasts can get Apple Computer Inc.’s high-style iMac
for $1,138 on the National Institutes of Health Electronic Computer Store II contract held
by Government Technology Services Inc. of Chantilly, Va.


The iMac runs Mac OS 8.5.1. It has a 333-MHz PowerPC G3 processor, 32M of synchronous
dynamic RAM, a 6G IDE hard drive, 24X CD-ROM drive, 56-Kbps modem and two Universal Serial
Bus ports. The iMac becomes operational as soon as the buyer plugs in a power cord and
modem cable, and attaches the keyboard and mouse.

For notebook PC users who want a rugged unit for travel, GTSI’s General Services
Administration Information Technology Schedule contract lists the $3,466 Panasonic
Personal Computer Co. ToughBook 71. It has a 366-MHz Pentium II processor, 64M of
synchronous dynamic RAM expandable to 192M, a 10G Ultra ATA hard drive, 24X CD-ROM drive
and Microsoft Windows 95.


The ToughBook 71 gets its toughness from a magnesium alloy case. It has a detachable
carry handle, a dust- and water-resistant Lexan display panel, and gel cushioning to
protect components from shock and vibration. The unit has a 13.3-inch active-matrix
display and a spill-resistant keyboard and touchpad. Pansonic gives a three-year limited
warranty on parts and labor.


Micron Electronics Inc. of Nampa, Idaho, sells the NetFrame 9200 server with one
400-MHz Pentium III Xeon processor, 256M of error-correcting-code, extended-data-out
dynamic RAM, 512K Level 2 cache and Windows NT Server 4.0. The price is $13,624 on
Micron’s GSA IT Schedule contract.


The NetFrame 9200 has 10 expansion slots, a triple-pier PCI bus, four hot-plug-ready
PCI slots and a 32X IDE CD-ROM drive. Included with the server are two 4G
hot-swappable/redundant boot drives and Intel LANDesk Server Manager 6.0 software. Micron
gives a three-year limited system warranty.


Compaq Computer Corp.’s GSA IT Schedule contract now has the $2,449 Armada 1700
notebook with Win95, 32M of RAM, 512K Level 2 cache, 56-Kbps modem, 5G Smart hard drive
and 24X CD-ROM drive. The Armada display measures 14.1 inches.


Force 3 Inc. of Crofton, Md., has posted new labor rates for its GSA IT Schedule
contract.


Changes involve hourly charges for LAN and WAN administrators, integrators,
microcomputer specialists, network technicians and systems analysts.
