Lotus' FastSite 3 Web publisher, initially designed for users who manage their own Web site content, has picked up a following among webmasters, Lotus Development Corp. officials said this month.

Lotus' FastSite 3 Web publisher, initially designed for users who manage their own Web site content, has picked up a following among webmasters, Lotus Development Corp. officials said this month.

The software's popularity led Lotus this year to spin off FastSite from SmartSuite and make it a standalone package. FastSite Release 3 can convert 25 types of file formats into the Adobe Portable Document Format, as well as Hypertext Markup Language and the Java jDoc format.

It offers a button choice for publishing through FastSite, Microsoft FrontPage 98 or FrontPage 2000.

To convert items to PDF for posting, users must have Adobe Acrobat Writer software. Site visitors need the free Acrobat Reader viewer.

Ten new templates raise the number of FastSite's authoring designs to 44. A navigable tree view shows icons to indicate file status. The package for Microsoft Windows 9x or Windows NT 4.0 is downloadable from www.lotusstore.com.

The price is $49 through the end of the month.
