CIO Council honors Reno and Young

Young received his at a dinner hosted by FOSE.This marks the second year the CIO Council has given Azimuth Awards, which honor accomplishments during the preceding year that supported federal information technology.James Flyzik, the council's co-chairman and CIO of the Treasury Department, praised Reno for promoting systems accessibility for the disabled and for the Justice Department's efforts to create national law enforcement systems.In brief remarks, Reno noted the importance of protection of online systems and privacy. Despite the proliferation of online systems, 'we can't forget the human touch,' she said.At the Young ceremony, Flyzik said the chief executive officer of the Chantilly, Va., reseller has demonstrated a willingness to give back to the federal IT community.'When you stop having relationships that add value, you stop living,' Young said. 'Where else can you have the opportunity to work with projects the size, scope and challenge of [those in] government?'Last year, the council gave the first Azimuth Award to John A. Koskinen, chairman of the President's Council on the Year 2000 Conversion, and Milton E. Cooper, president of Computer Science Corp.'s federal division [, March 29, 1999, Page 54].The council also honored the members of its committees, which Flyzik said do most of the council's work.
