Here are 10 of the Most Fashionable Mayors in the US

Leading a city government can involve all kinds of political and policy challenges, but these mayors are doing the job in style.
Mayors hold one of the highest profile jobs in local government, a position that regularly puts them at center stage in their cities and sometimes nationally. Whether on the campaign trail, during a state of the city address, a ground breaking for a new local project, or responding to less celebrated events, like, say, a botched snow storm cleanup, mayors are out in front of other officials in the public eye.
Mayors also frequently serve as de facto spokespeople—and to some extent salespeople—for their cities, speaking to the press, traveling to D.C. to meet with federal officials and making the pitch for what’s so uniquely awesome about their communities, and why people and businesses should want to locate in those places.
Well thought out policy and astute politics are certainly requisites for the most successful mayors. But with such a public-facing position, there’s also always a question of image—or style—and how this reflects the city each mayor represents.
With this in mind, and in the interest of turning to a lighter topic after a couple years saturated in rather heavy news, Route Fifty decided to conduct an informal reader survey to find the most fashionable mayors across the U.S. With the help of our readers’ responses and input from expert fashion judges, here is a list of 10 of the most stylish mayors grabbing attention with their attire (in alphabetical order):
Eric Adams, New York City

New York City is known as a global leader when it comes to fashion, and Eric Adam’s doesn’t disappoint holding up his town’s reputation on this front. He is often seen donning classic suits, but sported a chic look at New York Fashion Week this year, wearing a blue coat with an eye-catching paisley pattern.
The appearance came one day after he unveiled a partnership to expand the fashion industry in Brooklyn, demonstrating his commitment to not just embracing style in his wardrobe, but also to foster economic development. Adams was also caught wearing a cool brown and yellow graphic coat outside the Ralph Lauren Autumn/Winter 2022 Fashion Show. From leading New York City at City Hall, to attending flashy events, you are guaranteed to catch Adams dressed to impress.
Justin Bibb, Cleveland, Ohio

Justin Bibb is the second-youngest person elected mayor of Cleveland and laid-back but refined millennial sensibilities come across in his style—from hoodies and bomber jackets to suits, he effortlessly pulls off a look that brings business casual to a whole new level. Take, for instance, his embrace of turtleneck and suit jacket combos, or his love for pairing dress shirts and slacks with puffer vests.
In line with his business casual vibe, Bibb can even dress up Nike apparel. While visiting Old San Juan Jewelers in Cleveland, Bibb was spotted wearing a Nike sweater and sneakers which he perfectly paired with black slacks and a gray wool trench coat.
London Breed, San Francisco

At “The Matrix Resurrections” premiere screening event, where glammed up celebrities graced the red carpet, London Breed stood out with her stunning full-leather attire. However, showing up and showing out is something she is very familiar with. Even during her standard daily duties, Breed always manages to wear chic clothing that can stand out in a crowd, like the sparkling detail on the bold blue dress pictured here. An astonishing green sequin dress she wore at Glide’s annual Holiday Jam somewhat resembled a more professional and conservatively styled version of Jennifer Lopez's iconic sequin Valentino Haute Couture Cape that she wore for InStyle’s December 2018 issue.
“SF Mayor London Breed is looking great lately, especially with her amazing braids,” one nominator said.
LaToya Cantrell, New Orleans

While Mayor LaToya Cantrell always looks sophisticated in her work attire, her personality shines through her clothing at big events like Mardi Gras, the annual Treme Sidewalk Steppers second line parade as their 2022 Grand Marshal, and even at a football game.
For this year’s Mardi Gras, Cantrell shined with a red sparkly jumpsuit that could get anyone in a festive mood. The bright yellow pantsuit seen above is an example of how her style pops when dealing with more day-to-day mayoral duties.
Andre Dickens, Atlanta

From plaid to stripes to classic black, grays and navy blues, Andre Dickens may have the largest collection of suits of all the nominees—not to mention his jazzy array of ties.
This includes the sleek black coat Dickens wore to the 38th Annual Atlanta UNCF Mayors' Masked Ball. Like Adams in New York City, Dickens opted for a paisley pattern, but with the darker color giving it more of a night-out-at-a-gala look. Fashion might not be on the top of Dickens’ agenda, but his sharp wardrobe never disappoints.
Jacob Frey, Minneapolis

Jacob Frey has been seen wearing many fashionable suits, like the classic gray suit seen here. But he also has great active and informal looks for everyday occasions—a reflection of a city known for its bike friendliness, green space and access to outdoor destinations nearby. Frey can be seen above in some hip casual attire—jeans with a bit of a taper in the legs, paired with a red Nike windbreaker. The light blue and gray beanie throws in an additional dash of color, adding up to an ensemble that keeps the mayor both fashion-forward and warm—an important consideration given his city’s brisk winter weather. Overall, Frey's style might be summed up as "Midwest chic."
Tishaura Jones, St. Louis

If you were ever looking for inspiration for classy, modern professional, but also jaw-dropping outfits, Tishaura Jones should be one of the first people you turn to. From attending local events in an astonishing orange dress that has a unique slanted cut on one side paired with minimal accessories, to campaigning in a black dress with pink, red and white circular designs splattered throughout, to a night out with other mayors in a simple yet effective red silk number, Jones shows how versatile her fashion sense is.
She can also be seen here in a snazzy red dress with a white and red patterned jacket, pearl necklace, broach, silver bracelets and rings. There is never a dull moment when it comes to her outfits.
Mattie Parker, Fort Worth, Texas

Mattie Parker is a true Texan, which comes across in her Instagram posts. She serves up her own funky fresh cowgirl look that often consists of brightly colored outfits. Take this unique blazer with a multitude of colors and patterns she sported at a Cowgirl Museum Hall of Fame ceremony, paired with a tan hat and a greenish yellow scarf that tied the whole outfit together.
Parker does not hesitate to add Lone Star State flare to her outfits, like the bandana and cowgirl hat and boots seen above. When she is not dressed in casual wear, you will likely catch her in classy business attire, like the pink pantsuit she wore to her swearing-in ceremony, and bright-colored dresses.
Regina Romero, Tucson, Arizona

Even when digging a hole on a construction site, Regina Romero still manages to be one of the best dressed at the event, with a fiery red jacket complementing classic black pants.
Romero also dresses in style at the office—check out the black-and-white print blazer, or beige, black and green floral-print blouse seen in the photos above. She also looks flawless while out and about—from planting trees, to supporting youth development, Romero is consistently serving up great outfits while serving her community.
Michelle Wu, Boston

Wu has a classic look that makes her style timeless. From attending press events to her swearing-in ceremony, you are likely to see Wu in darker colors such as blacks and blues, or the forest green dress (with a muted pattern and a tasteful puff sleeve) seen here accented perfectly by the flash of a silver necklace. Phil Cohen (also known as thepacman82), runs a fashion blog and says he has one of the most followed Instagram accounts for men's fashion with more than 840,00 followers.
