Are you on OMB's high-risk list?

Connecting state and local government leaders

When the White House released a list of 26 high-risk information technology projects on Aug. 23, federal Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra was quick to point out that it wasn’t a hit list. But now some of the biggest names in government are under a microscope.

When the White House released a list of 26 high-risk information technology projects on Aug. 23, federal Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra was quick to point out that it wasn’t a hit list.

“This is not about killing projects. It is about making them work better and faster,” he said. “These programs are mission-critical. Their objectives remain as important as ever.”

The idea behind the list is to bring attention to the projects and get them back on track. Still, the list does name names, and extra support also means extra scrutiny.

Below are summaries of the 26 projects and links to background information where available. In some cases, the Office of Management and Budget’s IT Dashboard does not provide information on the projects. The ratings are based on a scale of one to 10.

For many, we've added links to stories in our archives about these projects.
