Adding yet another military out-sourcing contract to its portfolio, Computer Sciences
Corp. recently won a contract to provide engineering and program management support to the
Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command. The five-year contract is worth up to $21 million
if SPAWAR exercises all options. Under the contract, CSC will support the command's Naval
Warfare Systems Architecture and Engineering Directorate.
GTE Government Systems Corp. in Thousand Oaks, Calif., has announced that version 5 of
its Unix-based Digital Imagery Exploitation and Production System software is the first
commercial imaging product to satisfy the requirements of the Defense Department's new
National Imagery Transmission Format Standard 2.0. The Defense Information Systems
Agency's Joint Interoperability Test Center certified the software. It lets users capture,
edit, store and transmit digital images.
Col. Patrick M. Ryan has taken the reins of the Air Force Command, Control,
Communications and Computer Agency at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. Previously deputy
director of communications-computer systems for Air Combat Command headquarters at Langley
Air Force Base, Va., Ryan has held a number of communications and computer systems
positions throughout his 24-year Air Force career. Ryan succeeds Col. Harry D. Raduege,
Jr., who has been promoted to brigadier general and is now director of C4 Systems for the
U.S. Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.
Intergraph Corp. in Huntsville, Ala., has tapped Electronic Data Systems Corp. to
provide technical support services for the Computer-Aided Design-2 contract for the Naval
Air Systems Command and the Space and Naval Warfare Command. Integraph won the contract
for NAVAIR/SPAWAR CAD-2 work, one of three Navy CAD contracts, in 1994. As a CAD-2
subcontractor, EDS will provide support for engineering, communications and networking
tasks on CAD projects. EDS already has experience working with NAVAIR users. Since 1991,
the company has delivered several thousand computers and built a 40,000-user wide area
network for NAVAIR under its Small Multiuser Computer contract.
