The National Institutes of Health's three governmentwide acquisition contracts recently reported their fiscal 1999 sales figures as of March 31, and the Electronic Computer Store II contracts led the way with $44.4 million in business, averaging $33,700 per order. All three GWACs, however, appear to have fallen off from their fiscal 1998 revenue levels. ECS II did $456 million in business that year.

ECS II's top contractors this fiscal year are ComTeq Federal of Rockville, Md., FDC Technology Inc. of Bethesda, Md., Force 3 of Crofton, Md., Government Technology Services Inc. of Chantilly, Va., and McBride and Associates Inc. of Albuquerque, N.M.
About one-third of the current orders are coming from NIH. Last fiscal year, the Defense Department was the top customer.
The Chief Information Officer Solutions and Partners buy has rung up $39 million so far this fiscal year. The leading contractors are Logicon Inc. and Orkand Corp., both of Falls Church, Va.; SRA International Inc. of Fairfax, Va.; Unisys Corp.; and Universal Hi-Tech Development Inc. of Rockville, Md.
The third NIH contract, Image World, has done $6.5 million in business so far in fiscal 1999, led by Dataline Inc. of Annandale, Va., Doxsys Inc. of Bethesda, Md., NMS Inc. of Silver Spring, Md., Unisys and Universal Hi-Tech Development. On GTSI's General Services Administration Information Technology Schedule contract, the Daewoo Corp. CN610 multimedia notebook computer for videoconferencing on the fly has dropped in price to $2,068. The 7-pound basic notebook has a 266-MHz mobile Pentium II processor, 32M of RAM, a 2G hard drive, a 14.1-inch LCD display and a Universal Serial Bus port.
The Daewoo notebook's main claim to fame is a detachable video camera and a videoconferencing interface.
GTSI's online ordering site, at www.gtsi.com, now prices a design-your-own Daewoo desktop PC priced from $850 with a 400-MHz Pentium II processor, 64M of RAM, a 6.4G hard drive, a 32X CD-ROM drive and Microsoft Windows 98. A built-in configurator prices out optional larger hard drives, removable drives, DVD drives, sound, connectivity cards, monitors and other components.
Several resellers' GSA IT Schedule contracts are selling the brand-new MapInfo Professional 5.5 geographic information system package from MapInfo Corp. of Troy, N.Y., for $972 in versions for Windows 9x and Windows NT. MapInfo Pro 5.5 has 400M of geocoding and demographic data and reporting formats.
