New release. Global Command and Control System 3.0.3 was recently released to the field. It has what Defense Information Systems Agency officials call substantial enhancements in PC access to the map-based Common Operational Picture, information assurance, multisource correlation and theater ballistic missile warnings.
Supporting role. In early September, the Air Force Standard Systems Group at the Gunter Annex of Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala., signed indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contracts with three 8(a) companies to provide software support services, including database, network and system administration, primarily for SSG.
IT expo. The Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, in conjunction with the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center'Charleston, is holding a two-day information technology exposition on Version 6 of the Internet Protocol, in Charleston, S.C., Oct. 19 and 20.

More from SSG. Centech Group Inc. of Arlington, Va.; Madison Research Corp. and Quality Research Inc., both of Huntsville, Ala.; and RS Information Systems Inc. of McLean, Va., signed five-year IT Tools contracts, which have an estimated combined value of $49 million and are expected to bolster SSG's contracting with small businesses. The contracts are open to all Defense Department agencies, SSG said.
On the calendar. The Army Communications-Electronics Command Acquisition Center-Washington recently signed a blanket purchasing agreement with GE Capital IT Solutions of Gaithersburg, Md., for Novell products, including GroupWise calendar and messaging, ManageWise network manager and NetWare server products.
Because the Army avoids specifying products, Novell's technology may have more of a future in that service than it has in the Navy.
The BPA discounts Novell General Services Administration IT Schedule contract pricing up to 45 percent, according to the Army Information Systems Support Center's Web site, at technical.services.belvoir.army.mil/contracts/index.html.
