NASA credit card files now on Web
NASA has chosen a Web application to track its credit card purchases and receipts under the Integrated Financial Management Program's Core Financial Project.
| GCN STAFFNASA has chosen a Web application to track its credit card purchases and receipts under the Integrated Financial Management Program's Core Financial Project.The software, P-Card Web Solution from Credit Card Solutions Inc. of Richland, Wash., will standardize the way employees reconcile their credit card transactions, said Jane Maples, purchasing subprocess team leader for the Core Financial Project, based at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala.For the most part, NASA has had no electronic system to track card purchases, Maples said. Employees have had to reconcile their statements by hand. But card use, both at NASA and throughout the government, has gone up dramatically, she said.Core Financial Project officials sought software to help cardholders and the managers who approve the transactions, Maples said. They wanted to eliminate duplicate entries and reduce the accounting workload.NASA's card provider is Bank of America of Charlotte, N.C., Maples said. About 4,500 of the agency's employees use the cards.Once P-Card Web Solution is running, cardholders will go to their password-protected accounts within the application and record their purchases in an order log.The software also will record that purchased goods have been received and reconcile credit card statements with the purchasing logs, Maples said.Accenture, formerly Andersen Consulting of Chicago, is the implementation coordinator for the Core Financial Project, which uses mySAP.com financial management software from SAP Public Sector and Education Inc. of Washington []. Accenture will integrate the credit card application with mySAP.com.The entire Core Financial Project is slated for rollout in June of next year at Marshall, Maples said.If things go well, the project applications will be introduced to two more NASA centers the following October, three centers in February 2003 and the last four centers in June 2003. n
